
About Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Smarak Trust
This library established after independence and since then it is functioning from 7 Jantar Mantar Road New Delhi. This is the place where all the records of Indian National Congress are available from 1929 to 1974. All the Congress Presidential Speeches, resolutions, proceedings of committee meetings and other relevant records are kept. Besides that it has got about 400 tapes of speeches of prominent Congress leaders delivered in Congress sessions from time to time wherever they were held.
A few hundred photographs of these leaders are also available.
This library also possesses 8 Volumes of Proceedings and a set of 55 Volumes of The Journal of Indian National Congress published from London (from 1891 to 1921). We have excellent numbers of books on politics, party politics, freedom struggle and relevant subjects. A few 1000 books in Hindi language on all subjects are available.
During split of Congress party into 2 parts Congress (I) and Congress (O) the records of this library were stolen damaged and looted by both the claimants. The incident lead to start distrust show that no party may claim the property.
During 50s Anand Bhavan Library from Allahabad was also shifted and merged with the same library and the remaining records were reorganised after 1986 bye the current librarian with his small number of Staff. The librarian is also responsible for library’s administration. The library was reorganised as special reference and research library under the guidance off its managing trustee Shri Viresh Pratap Chaudhry. About 4000 books on politics and other subjects were donated by one of our very senior literary trustee and one time foreign minister in central government late Shri SN Mishra. The library is functioning on sound footings with latest available technology.
